Oriel Architects have worked on a number of projects for the University of Glamorgan / South Wales, including the Sports & Recreation Building, Refectory, Research Block, Police Training Unit, Chaplaincy and B Block. The last of this list, include the removal of an existing bridge of offices, to open up a courtyard area and the refurbishment of the classroom and office areas within the buildings at either end.

The original arrangement included a sub station building which could not be removed and so was made into a feature linking with the teaching space above the B Block entrance. A triangular, covered canopy protects the B Block entrance and Blackwell’s Bookshop concession, and is reflected in the patterning within the courtyard paving.

The bright red cladding follows a theme established in the yellow corner cladding of the original building and now acts as a reference point where students can agree to meet.
